Description
An Amarone vertical tasting is made for enthusiasts who want to taste how this wine changes over time, and at Corte Archi in Marano di Valpolicella it takes about an hour. Before the glasses come out, you see where the wine is made.
The visit opens in the old cellar among wooden barrels, moves to the processing area and then to the fruit cellar, where the grapes dry naturally on their way to becoming Amarone and Recioto. A short walk among the vines gives a close look at the land.
You taste either beneath the portico or indoors in the tasting room. Four Amarone della Valpolicella Classico wines are poured: the 2021 Gli Archi, the 2020 IS and the IS selection from 2019 and 2017. Tasting them in order lets you follow Amarone from a young, untamed wine towards a more mature, intriguing one, and notice its elegance and harmony. All four come with 24-month aged Parmigiano Reggiano.
