Description

The Museo Africano di Verona (African Museum) is the Comboni Missionaries' museum devoted to the peoples and cultures of Africa: musical instruments, games, work tools and everyday objects that have arrived from the missions over more than a century.

The route follows the stages of life, from birth to death, by way of crafts, music and traditional religions alongside Christianity and Islam. The masks stand out, and so does the tukul, the African hut where the community gathers.

The idea dates back to 1882, when Daniele Comboni's successor asked that “the interesting objects, science or curiosities” sent from Africa by the missionaries be collected in Verona. The first ones arrived ten years later. Linked to the museum is the Nigrizia Library, with about 25,000 volumes on anthropology.
