Description
Porta Vescovo , whose name derives from the toll that was once collected in the name of the bishop, is the perfect combination of military security needs and precise aesthetic norms .
Erected in 1520 under the direction of Commander Teodoro Trivulzio, the building looks like a square body harmonized on the facade by decorations of white marble in imitation of the triumphal arch in Rome.
Between 1840 and 1863 Anton Naredi-Rainer added the guard, the dust warehouse and the pedestrian walk.
The two sides have different characteristics: the eastern one has a Renaissance setting, while the other has a façade in brick and tufa and polygonal towers, typical style from Vienna.
Since 1920 there are two gaps: a first made with a double tube, the other opened about 30 years later, on the side towards the Rondella di Santa Toscana.
