Description

A Verona walking tour with a licensed local guide, in a group of up to ten, that links the Arena and the main squares with the lesser-known streets behind them.

This Verona walking tour is led by a licensed guide who was born and raised in the city, and the group never exceeds ten people. It lasts about two hours and is shaped around stories, with headsets so you can hear every word.

You meet in Piazza Bra and begin at the Arena, where the guide describes the gladiator games and the building's architecture. The walk follows the line of the early medieval walls to the Corso, one of the oldest streets in town, passes the Roman-era Porta Jovia and looks across the Adige to Castelvecchio and the Scaligero bridge.

Away from the busiest streets you learn to tell medieval from early modern building styles. In Piazza delle Erbe you see the oldest fountain in the city and hear about the market. Piazza dei Signori brings Palazzo della Ragione and the tallest tower, and the Arche Scaligere tombs lead to Romeo's house and the story of how Juliet's House got its balcony.

The route crosses uneven cobblestones and you should be able to walk for two hours; stops for toilets or food are not always possible. Juliet's House and courtyard are not entered, and tickets, transport, food and drinks are not included. It is not suited to children under 6.
