Description
This Amarone wine tasting and cellar tour in Fumane starts on the winery's terrace, with Valpolicella's vineyards rolling away in front of you and a first talk about how the Accordini family makes wine. You hear what it takes to grow grapes on the high hills.
Then you go inside: first to the fruttaio, the room where grapes dry for Amarone and Recioto, then through the vinification and ageing cellars. The guide explains the biochemistry that turns drying grapes into wines that are among the most prestigious in Italy.
The tasting follows, each wine matched with salumi and cheeses. Depending on the option you pick, it can include:
- Valpolicella and Ripasso
- Amarone, plus rare Riserva wines
- Grana Padano and Monte Veronese
- a blue cheese aged in chocolate and rum
You taste five to six wines in all. A longer Gourmet PLUS option adds a three-course meal, from antipasto through Amarone risotto to a home-made dessert, paired with six wines, and runs on selected days only. The visit takes between an hour and a half and two and a half hours, depending on the option. Tours run in Italian and English. Transfers are not included, and wheelchair access is limited.
